  • Presidential Export Awards 2023/2024 15 July 2024

  • Participation at 30th Gulfood Exhibition, Dubai, UAE 12 July 2024

    The EDB will be organizing Sri Lanka’s participation at GULFOOD 2025 exhibition scheduled to be held from 17th – 21st February 2025 at the World Trade Centre, Dubai, UAE. GULFOOD is one of the largest Food & Beverage Exhibitions in the world which connect more than 5,000 exhibitors and more than 140,000 visitors from over 190 countries.

    Gulfood fair will provide a platform for the participants to promote F & B products mainly to the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region and study the new market trends, innovative products, competitor behavior, new technologies applied in the sector.

    FOR WHOM

    Applications are invited from the Food & Beverage processors/exporters of the following product categories, adhering to international food standards and having capacity to cater to the international market.

    • Fresh / processed fruits and vegetables (frozen, dehydrated, canned/ bottled, fruit juices etc.)
    • Coconut based food products (desiccated coconut, coconut milk, cream, powder etc.)
    • Confectionary & bakery products, dairy products, specialty & convenient food products
    • Spice & spice mixtures, gift packs, essential oils etc.
    • Tea (value added – flavoured tea bags, gift packs etc.)
    • Cereals & cereal based products
    • Beverages
    • Healthy food products, herbal products & organic food products
    • Food ingredients and Food supplements
    • Other relevant food products

    EDB ASSISTANCE

    The cost of space & construction together and all related expenses have to be borne by the participating companies. EDB may consider providing financial assistance towards part cost of space/construction for selected SME companies subject to availability of funds.

    APPLICATION & SELECTION:

    Applications should be made in the prescribed form available at the Export Agriculture Division (6th floor), EDB or could be downloaded from the website: www.srilankabusiness.com under Section “Announcements”. Duly completed applications should reach the Director - Export Agriculture, EDB by registered post on or before 26th July 2024 by mentioning “Gulfood 2025” on top left-hand corner of the cover. Short listed applicants will be interviewed by a panel appointed by the EDB to select suitable participants for the programme.

  • Technical Exposure and Capacity Building Programme Coinciding with “BIOFACH 2025” 12 July 2024

    The EDB in collaboration with the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) - Germany will be organising a Technical Exposure and Capacity Building Programme for export potential Women Led Businesses and export-oriented companies coinciding with Biofach 2025 scheduled to be held in Nuremberg, Germany from 09th – 14th February 2025.

    PROGRAMME

    • Visit to Biofach 2025 exhibition to obtain first-hand experience on international trade fair participation and product display.
    • Study product/market trends, innovations, technologies, and marketing strategies in the food industry
    • Visit Food processing factories in Germany
    • Participate B2B meetings and Networking opportunities with potential buyers/ industry partners

    FOR WHOM

    Applications are invited from women led businesses (Registered businesses that are more than 50 % owned by one or more women) or any other export-oriented companies in the F&B processing/ exporting sector (preferably certified organic) of the following product categories.

    • Processed fruits & vegetables (Frozen, dehydrated & preserved fruits & vegetables, fruit juices, canned & bottled products) & fresh fruits & vegetables     
    • Spices and allied products
    • Coconut kernel-based products                
    • Tea, herbal tea & beverages
    • Confectionery & bakery products, dairy products, specialty & convenient food products, cereal & cereal based products, food for health             
    • Food supplements and nutraceuticals
    • Any other relevant food products

    COST OF PARTICIPATION

    The cost of airfare, hotel accommodation and internal travel have to be borne by the respective participants. EDB may consider meeting part cost of selected Women Led Businesses subject to the availability of funds

    The EU Commission by the implementing regulation - (EU) 2022/144, has entered the name ‘Ceylon Cinnamon’ to the register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications (Ceylon Cinnamon PGI) with effect from 2nd February, 2022.

    The ownership and custodianship of the “Ceylon Cinnamon” is vested with the Export Development Board (EDB), in accordance with the Cabinet Memorandum approved by the Cabinet Ministers in year 2009.

    The Export Development Board (EDB) is empowered to issue the license for Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) Mark pursuant to the implementing regulation - (EU) 2022/144, to the eligible stakeholders of Ceylon Cinnamon value chain who implement a control plan that complies with the stipulated GI specifications (Annexure I - Eligible stakeholders of Ceylon Cinnamon value chain).

    The ‘PGI Mark” can be displayed only on value added Ceylon Cinnamon Packs including Cinnamon cut quills, Cinnamon powder, and Cinnamon leaf oil & Cinnamon bark oil containing 100% Pure Ceylon Cinnamon grown, processed, and manufactured in Sri Lanka.

    Those interested

    The Cinnamon stakeholders who comply with the following eligibility criteria are invited to forward their applications to EDB to obtain license to use PGI mark for above mentioned Ceylon Cinnamon products.

    Eligibility Criteria;

        •  Member of the Association for Ceylon Cinnamon Protected Geographical Indication (ACCPGI). If you are not a member of the association, please forward your application to ACCPGI (Annexure-II – Notice of ACCPGI).
    OR
    Contact the Department of Export Agriculture (DEA) office relevant to your district http://www.dea.gov.lk/contact-dist/ to obtain membership of ACCPGI.

        •  Implementation of three levels of control in the supply chain following the guide books published referring to Ceylon Cinnamon GI specification (self-control, internal control, and external control)-Annexure-III Guide books for growers /processors/ manufacturers and exporters.

        •  Recommendation from the competent authority who act as external controller (Department of Export Agriculture) as a PGI farmer, processor, manufacture or exporter.

    Application Guidelines;

    The Cinnamon value chain players who fulfil the above three eligibility criteria are requested to submit a duly completed application form by e-mail / post to - Director/Export Agriculture Division No.42, Nawam Mawatha, Colombo-02 or through email to [email protected] along with the recommendation from the Department of Export Agriculture.
